View Ribeira Chã is a parish in the municipality of Lagoa, with 2.52 km² of area and 365 inhabitants (2021 census).
The Ribeira Chã, a very old village, owes its name to the stream that runs in its vicinity and that flows into the sea, through a grota covered with shallow slabs or chães. Until the seventeenth century, it was only a place where one would hunt chickens from Guinea, being few who settled in this place, due to the difficult accessibility. Only those who preferred to dedicate their work to hunting and pastel culture were established, which had a great relevance and importance for the Azorean economy during the fifteenth and sixteenth
centuries.The development of this parish took place from the 1960s, largely under the influence of Father João Caetano Flores, with its elevation to parish.
