Located on the north coast of the island of São Miguel, this parish faces the sea and the parishes of Lomba da Maia and Lomba de São Pedro (municipality of Ribeira Grande) and Furnas (municipality of Povoação).
The parish of Fenais da Ajuda is so named due to the abundance of hay, which once existed and, of Ajuda, in the horn of the patron saint of the old Franciscan Convent that existed in the place. Likewise, this locality is also known as Fenais da Vera Cruz, due to the similarity of its tip with a cross, or Fenais da Maia, as it was the term of the parish of Maia.
The first inhabitants of this parish came from Maia, settling here around 1500, where they built a chapel dedicated to the Holy Wise Men, protectors of navigation and Portuguese discoveries.
In 1541, this place was elevated to a parish. In 1832 the parish church of the Holy Three Kings was built, blessed in 1843. In the place of Ribeira Funda, whose toponym comes from the fact that it is located in a "deep stream", there is the parish church of Nossa Senhora da Aflição.
