Vila de Rei is a portuguese village in the district of Castelo Branco, in the province of Beira Baixa, central region and sub-region of the Middle Tagus.
It is the headquarters of the municipality of Vila de Rei with 191.55 km² of area and 3 276 inhabitants. The municipality is bordered to the north by the large municipality of Sertã, to the east by Mação, to the south by Sardoal and Abrantes and to the west by Ferreira do Zêzere.
The municipality is crossed by the National Road N2, the largest road in Portugal, and also enjoys the waters of the River Zêzere, more precisely the Albufeira de Castelo de Bode for water catchment and bathing activities.
Within 2 km is the Geodesic Centre of Mainland Portugal, in the Serra da Melriça. At the top of this mountain range, is built a landmark about 20 meters high, called "Picoto", thus marking the Center at the level of geodesic coordinates.
Vila de Rei received a foral from Dom Dinis in 1285.
